GYV -Welcoming Iraqi Youth

The 2008 Global Youth Village: Welcoming Iraqi Youth brings together diverse teens from the U.S. and Iraq for a chance to meet, learn about each other’s life and culture, and explore what it means to be a global citizen. Together, participants from both nations engage in dialogue, learn skills for community action, and discover how to make a difference both locally and globally.

Youth Explore global topics such as sustainable living, the role of media and public opinion, AIDS, technology, and conflict resolution, appling the skills they are learning in practical, real-life settings. There’s also plenty of time for sports, socializing, and talent shows.

Funding for the Iraqi students’ participation in this session of the Global Youth Village is provided by the U.S. Department of State, as a part of its mission to promote mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries. Three U.S. organizations are working together to make the Iraqis’ visit to the United States possible: AMIDEAST, Sister Cities International, and Legacy International.
